Nature and the woodland near my home are a great source of inspiration for me. It is the focus of my current work as a textile artist and with the versatility of machine embroidery, I have developed my own interpretation of that. My pieces are stitched representations of natural entities each having its own little woodland vignette in which to live. Some of these components are given their own glass domes which helps to protect them along with creating a snapshot of their world.
Looking back, even with the influence of the brothers mentioned, there has always been a seed of interest in books, fairytales and all aspects of the natural world.
I used all these interests as my bases for my BA(Hons) 3D design degree where I gained a first class honours. This allowed me to broaden my horizons, utilising skills in glass, ceramics, metal and jewellery design and how these can be incorporated in to my textiles projects. Some of which were used for display at previous shows.
